What a Difference a Year (and Jesus) Makes

On February 18 of 2012, I was an unsaved gambling addict. I was depressed, hopeless and in a few months I would contemplate suicide as an option for ending my misery. Yet, much like I do today, I still found the time to share my thoughts on Facebook. Except I wasn’t talking about Jesus, the joy in my life or trying to help anyone find God’s sentence for their lives. No, I had other more pressing matters to discuss!

The image below is an actual post I shared that day:

I thought I was funny. I thought mocking others was too. On February 18th 2012, I had no idea who I was. Seven months later, however, I would have an encounter with Jesus that would transform the future of my life because it changed me from the inside out. Jesus turned my depression into joy, replaced my hopelessness with an overflow of peace and transformed my suicidal thoughts into visions for my future.

A year later, on February 18th 2013, I commented on Facebook again. This time, the changes of Christ is my life were on full display. The image below is an actual post from that day. (Read the entire post here)

In just one year, my life was radically changed for the better. I had become a new creation in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17). People close to me noticed the abrupt and radical changes occuring and began calling me the New John Simmons — a moniker I still use today.

Today, February 18th 2019, I have come even farther. Six years ago, I was unaware of God’s sentence for my life, but had started searching for it. God revealed to me months later what I was created to do through Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:10). One of the things God called me to do was write. Books, articles and even Facebook comments are now a part of my ministry to lift people up instead of a tool I use to tear others down.

Your Life Should Stand Out

If Christ is in your life, it should not look like it used to. As you can see for yourself in the images above, I was transformed after I found and made Jesus my Lord and savior. If I said I knew Jesus but was still saying and doing the things from my past, shouldn’t you be able to question my sincerity? Of course. Thankfully, my life has changed and I now have a trail of evidence showing the work of Christ in my life and the favor and blessings of God that have come since I began following His plans and purpose.

If your life hasn’t been radically transformed by Christ a year after you met Him, I would question if you have really gotten to know Him since the day you met. Your life should also be full of evidence that could find you guilty of having a relationship with Jesus as your Lord and savior.

The night I found Jesus I said, “God, if you’re real I need you to show me a future and a hope for my life because I don’t see one for myself.” He answered my prayer that night. (You can read that full testimony in my first book Finding Faith.) If you are interested in seeing the difference Jesus can make in your life, ask God into your life, seek forgiveness and put trust and faith in Christ (Romans 10:9).

Your life doesn’t have to look the same a year from now. You can find the same wonderful changes I found through Christ for yourself. You can have Christ turn your depression into hope. You can see His miracles happen in your life. You can have a vision from God that will impact your future in such a satisfying way that you will want to tell others about it.

The night I said those short sentences, I found the future and hope I was desperate to find. Not only was the next year of my life drastically changed for the better, so was my every year since. I am praying those same sentences today for you. I pray you find a future and a hope for your life today.
