The Day of the Biopsy - Pappy’s Pen #03
Today was the day we were all “looking forward to”. I had my biopsy today. On the way there my wife and I were commenting on how blessed we are; nice home, food to eat, wonderful kids and grandkids that all live close by and all get along. So many people don’t have that and we don’t want to take that for granted. And everyone is saved, going to heaven. The Bible says to store our treasures in heaven, where our treasures are our heart is also, and really the only things that matter here is our relationships with God, friends, and family.
I started the day by having to self-administer an enema to get ready for my appointment. I had never done this before and now I know why. I don’t ever really want to do this again. The instructions said that it would have an effect within 1-5 minutes. Being competitive I thought I could hold out for at least 10 minutes. I lasted 7 minutes 14 seconds before blastoff!
I was a little nervous going into the appointment, not knowing what to expect. I had taken a hydrocodone before going so my wife drove me there. I was hoping to have a bit of euphoria and relaxation from the pill but all I got was a fuzzy brain and a slight headache. From the pill, not my wife’s driving.
My wife came back with me for the “procedure” so you can ask her for her opinion of what happened. I think I was slightly nervous but mostly calm about the whole thing. I was swabbed/painted/doused with a sanitizing solution that was very cold. Very cold. Then I got “scoped/probed”. Felt very large it did. Did not feel the doctor administering the anesthetic but felt a lot of pressure while he was “investigating”. Every time the doctor would get ready to take a sample he would announce “pop and snip” or something like that. Didn’t really feel any pain but always pressure. Got through it by concentrating on not peeing and pooping whenever he said “pop and snip”. It was touch and go but I am proud to say I did not go.
The doctor took about a dozen samples, the whole thing from when I arrived to when I left was less than ½ hour. He showed Nancy and I the samples he took, I couldn’t tell what I was looking at. My wife thought they looked like tiny worms. We should hear results within 3-5 days.
I’m still a little sore, especially when sitting. I’ve been lying on the couch all afternoon. Hopefully I’ll feel better tomorrow. Continue to pray for an all-clear. God is in control no matter what the result.
